The decision by President Trump and his administration to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an affront to our country’s values, communities, and people. Donald Trump has consciously chosen to target some of the most vulnerable in our society who pose no threat to our communities. I in the strongest terms possible condemn Trump’s decision to rescind DACA and his targeting of childhood arrivals. DACA recipients are in every way possible Americans and vital members of our country.
Furthermore, the response by Congressman Jodey Arrington reflects Trump’s assault on our immigrant community and American children and young adults. This is simply an act of xenophobia and bigotry. Data and facts prove that these young children and adults are an asset to our communities and country. We must not forget the actions taken by these cowardly leaders as they dangle the lives of children and their families to “score” so few political points.
We must protect those most vulnerable in our society and shield them from heartless and ill advised leadership from Washington, Austin, and those representing our district. Over 90% of DACA recipients are full-time workers. The protection provided by DACA allows them to insert themselves and contribute directly to our community’s economic and social well-being. Rescinding DACA does not move our legislative branch to develop bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform but rather it fails our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, hospitals, and others areas and institutions we rely on. Ending DACA ends the American Dream of the 800,000+ aspiring young Americans. My campaign will advocate and propose policies that will look to find sensible, compassionate, and effective policies that unite our country, not divide it.
